ABOUT BEN

I help people make changes they can actually stick to

I’m Ben, a Personal Trainer and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist. For more than 10 years, I’ve helped people get fitter, stronger and healthier - but I’ve learned that knowing what to do is rarely the hardest part. The interesting bit is working out what keeps getting in the way.

HOW I GOT HERE

I started with fitness.
The interesting bit turned out to be people.

I’ve worked as a Personal Trainer for more than 10 years. Like most PTs, I started out thinking the job was mainly about training — helping people get stronger, fitter, lose weight and feel better.

The longer I did it, the more I realised that writing a good programme was often the easy bit.

WHAT I BECAME MORE INTERESTED IN...

✓ Why someone knows what to do but still struggles to do it
✓ Why motivation can disappear
✓ Why confidence can hold someone back
✓ Why people keep falling into the same patterns
✓ Why something that works brilliantly for one person doesn’t work for another

THAT LED ME INTO...

✓ Behaviour change
✓ Habits and motivation
✓ How thoughts and emotions affect what

we do
✓ Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy
✓ Finding better ways to help people when a plan alone isn’t enough

THE PERSON BEHIND THE COACHING

I haven’t got it all figured out either

I know what it’s like to know what you should be doing and still struggle to actually do it.

I was diagnosed with AuDHD later in life, and I’ve had my own struggles with mental health, motivation and consistency. I’ve also had injuries that changed what I could do physically and forced me to rethink the way I trained.

All of that has probably shaped the way I coach more than I realised at the time.

I don’t expect people to be motivated all the time, follow a perfect routine or organise their entire life around getting fit. Real life doesn’t work like that — mine certainly doesn’t.

For me, good coaching isn’t about expecting perfection. It’s about understanding what’s getting in the way, working with it and finding a way forward that works for you.

REAL PEOPLE, REAL RESULTS

Changes that go beyond the gym

Weight loss and fitness might be part of the goal. But the changes that matter most are the ones that make everyday life better.

OUTSIDE OF WORK

There’s more to me than the gym

Training has been a big part of my life for years, but it’s definitely not my whole life.

I’m married to Laura; we’ve got two teenage boys, a dog and two cats.

I love travelling, getting away in the campervan, being outdoors, eating good food and finding places we’ve never been before. I also train because I genuinely enjoy it, play guitar, follow football and can quite happily lose far too many hours to a good game.

I think that matters when it comes to coaching. Fitness should add to your life, not become your entire life.

HOW IT WORKS

There isn’t one right way to do this

Good coaching isn’t about giving everyone the same plan. It’s about working out what will actually work for the person in front of me.

01

WE WORK OUT WHERE YOU’RE GOING

We start with what you actually want to change. Not what you think you should want, but what would genuinely make a difference to you.

02

WE WORK OUT WHAT’S GETTING IN THE WAY

Sometimes it’s training or nutrition. Sometimes it’s confidence, motivation, habits, stress or simply trying to fit everything into real life.

03

WE FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU

We try things, see what happens and adjust as we go. The aim is to find an approach you can actually live with — not one you can only follow when everything is going perfectly.

READY TO GET STARTED

Let's have a chat

If you think I might be the right person to help you, the first step is simply having a chat. You can tell me where you are now and what you’d like to change, and we can work out whether personal training or online coaching would be the best fit. No pressure or obligation — just a conversation to see what would help.
